The Pearl of Great Value
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it.”
–Matthew 13:45-46
Jesus speaking
Jesus, did I heard you right? A merchant sold all he had for one pearl? Only one pearl?
As long as I have been a Christian, I have only heard one explanation for this parable. The merchant is us and the pearl is eternal life through Christ Jesus. Only when we give our lives over to Jesus do we get to experience a wonderful relationship with God and inherit eternal life.
That sounds right doesn’t it? Well, a couple months ago I heard a different explanation. The merchant is Jesus and he found us. Even if one pearl was separated from Him, He would have given up all he had to buy this pearl. And that’s exactly what Jesus did for us. Jesus came to die as a sacrifice so that He could have a relationship with us and reconcile us to Himself. He loves us. We are His daily delight.
What an eye opener! What a different, but wonderful, new perspective. It’s true! Even if there was just one person, Jesus would have given his life for her anyways.
Use this day to thank the Lord for His wonderful sacrifice and love for you. If it were only you who needed reconciliation, He still would have died on that cross and risen again.
Thank you Jesus for your love, mercy, and grace.

This explanation explains things very clearly and really opened my eyes allowing me to Thank Jesus for what he did!
